ROCKY RIVER – Colin Somerville's goal with four seconds remaining in regulation broke a 1-1 tie with Mentor, and pushed Findlay to a 2-1 season-opening win at the Rocky River Tournament.
Sommerville's goal was assisted by Turner Merrill and Ryan Maas.
It was Merrill's goal at the 10:15 mark of the second period that gave the Trojans' a 1-0 lead.
The goal was assisted by Colt Phillips and AJ Savage.
The Cardinals tied the game with 2:43 left in regulation, when AJ Trobenter converted a pass from teammate Rowan Jakupca.
Seth Russell made 28 saves for Findlay. Mentor goalkeeper Ryan Wilkinson had 17.
The Trojans will be back in action at the Hamilton Ice Arena in Rocky River, when they take on Shaker Heights at 4:15 p.m. Findlay will play Erie Mason at noon on Sunday.

Reserved tickets for the 2023-24 Findlay High School boys basketball regular season are now on sale, and can be purchased by visiting findlaytrojans.com/tickets.
The Trojans will play in an OHSAA Foundation game on Nov. 24 in the FHS main gym with the freshman contest beginning at 2:00 pm. All tickets for this contest will be general admission.
