Trojans Rout Generals on Senior Night

It was Senior Night at The Cube Arena for the Findlay High School Hockey team and the fans in attendance got a show from the seniors on the roster who accounted for 7 of the Trojans 9 goals in their 9-2 rout of the Anthony Wayne Generals (9-22-1 0-11-0). The scoring started early for the Trojans, scoring on their second shot on target of the game. After taking a penalty and being put on the penalty kill early, Sr. Captain Ethan Lammers broke free of the Anthony Wayne defense and finished off the breakaway with a shorthanded goal giving Findlay the 1-0 lead. The Trojans would take a second penalty in a row after killing off the first penalty they took. The Generals would get a few early shots on Sr. goalie Garrett Ambrose, but he would turn them away. After killing off the second penalty, Findlay would convert on a good team up between Sr. Mason Greenawalt and Jr. AJ Savage with Greenawalt finish off the great pass from Savage to make the Trojans lead 2-0. Less than one minute later Anthony Wayne would get on the scoreboard with Nick Palicki scoring an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1.

It would take some time into the second period before the scoring continued for the teams. With five minutes left in the period Soph. Sam Swisher scored from an assist by Sr. Ross Trenkamp to give the Trojans a two goal lead at 3-1. One minute later the senior show would continue for Findlay thanks to a goal by Sr. Kellen Wetz and the assist to Greenawalt, giving Findlay a 4-1 lead. Trojans goalie Ambrose was working his hardest during the second period, he would turn away all of the chances Anthony Wayne would get and end the night with 19 saves. With 1:20 left in the second period Findlay would score again this time from Jr. Nate Riegle and the assist going to Wetz to give the Trojans a 5-1 advantage going into the third period.

40 seconds into the third period Lammers would score on a rush with Wetz getting the assist for Findlay. With 12:02 remaining in the game Paul Carr would score for the Generals with Seth Kirby getting the assist to cut the Trojans lead to 6-2. Findlay's special team came up big late in the third period accounting for the final three Trojans goals. First at 6:19 the power-play unit scored from a Trenkamp shot off a Wetz assist. Two minutes later the penalty kill team was at it again for Findlay and again Lammers would score from another Wetz assist to cap off Lammers hat trick night. Under 2 minutes remained in the game when Wetz would score on the power-play for the Trojans and he would finish the night with 6 points 2 G 4 A.

Findlay now 16-12-1 4-6-1 NHC will travel to Bowling Green Saturday night to finish the regular season against their fierce rival, before they have to face off again in the OHSAA playoffs.
