Hockey OHSAA Regional Quarterfinal vs. BG Recap

Findlay's Chris Eickholt starts the scoring in the OHSAA quarterfinal.

Rivals Findlay and Bowling Green met in the OHSAA Sylvania Regional Quarterfinal on Friday night and played to an instant classic, which Bowling Green came out victorious in the end with the score 5-4 in overtime.

After Bowling Green took a penalty Findlay got an early goal at the 11:03 mark with Chris Eickholt scoring off a pass from Mason Greenawalt, just as the Bobcats penalty was expiring. At 6:30 in the first period Bowling Green tied the game up with a goal from Tanner Amos with Braden Loomis getting the assist. With 2:44 left in the first period the Trojans retook the lead with a goal by Noah Schramko with Colin Somerville getting the assist, this gave Findlay a 2-1 advantage after the first period.

During the second period Bowling Green turned up the pressure on Findlay. The Trojans would be on the penalty kill twice and give up 10 shots during the period. With 3:51 left in the second period the Bobcats would score an unassisted goal by Ethan Helvoigt. Less than a minute later Bowling Green would score again this time by Tanner Amos with Drake Joseph getting the assist to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead going into the third period.

Findlay would battle back in the third with a goal at 8:43 from Mason Greenawalt with Draven Wilson assisting the goal. Four minutes later the Trojans would score a goal by Nate Reigle off an assist to Matt Pinski, this gave Findlay a 4-3 lead in the game. With :50 left in the game and an empty net the Bobcats would win the faceoff and score the game tying goal by Caden Wisniewski  and assists going to Easton Schick and Tanner Amos and send the game to Overtime 4-4.

In overtime it only takes 1 shot and sure enough this time is how it turned out. Braden Loomis would be the hero for the Bobcats scoring from the point through traffic past Findlay netminder Seth Russell.
Braden Loomis post game for the Bowling Green Bobcats "I don't even know how that goal went in. There was a bunch of traffic in front and I just launched it in there...sometimes you get lucky and today I had that puck luck."

Seth Russell would finish the game with 25 saves for the Trojans.

Cole Contriss would finish with 20 saves for Bowling Green.

The once promising season ends early for the Trojans, from here Bowling Green will face Sylvania Northview (a 10-0 winner earlier this evening) next Friday in the regional semifinals.

Findlay Trojans Coach Ben Patey "We battled hard all game and sometimes this is what happens, losses hurt but you learn from the mistakes to not make them again." "We have a strong returning core for next year, and the young guys can take these game opportunities to get better and see where they need to develop for next season."
