Swimming State Championships Recap

Area swimmers competed this past week at OHSAA State Swim and Dive Competing held at Canton McKinley's C.T Branin Natatorium. The Ohio High School State Swim meet is one of the fastest single high school meets in the country. It is also one of the hardest meets to qualify for. While other states use qualification times, Ohio follows an elimination-style tournament. New this year, OHSAA expanded the number of qualifiers from 24 to 32 in Individual events, while still only accepting 24 relay teams. You must finish in the top 16 to earn All Ohio.

Key highlights from the State Meet:
  • Findlay High School's Claire Kemmere finished 30th in the 200 Freestyle and 20th in the 500 Freestyle.
  • St. Francis' Scotty Buffy set the Ohio High School and National High School record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 44.97.
  • Emily Brown from Dublin Coffinmen Set the State record in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:45.88
  • Hudson Williams from Olentangy Liberty Set the boy's 50 Freestyle State Record with a time of 19.55 and set the boy's 100 Freestyle State record with a time of 42.98.
  • Cincinnati St. Xavier won the D1 Boys' competition, while Dublin Jerome won the D1 girl's competition.
